Dave ThompsonAbout Dave Thompson
Growing up in a small, humble town in southeastern Ohio instilled Dave Thompson with values that remain obvious in every facet of his life. Lessons learned growing up as the son of a Methodist pastor in Hemlock, Ohio are put to use each day as he strives to provide a caring, conscientious service to his buying and selling clients.

Dave came close to putting his talents to use in a totally different profession – medicine. A pre-med student at Miami University in Oxford, Dave was accepted to several prestigious medical schools but wanted to reaffirm the decision before committing himself. "I met with any doctor who would give me a few moments of his time," he says now. "Too many of them regretted going into medicine – so much of their time was spent worrying about malpractice and insurance companies instead of caring for patients. Their comments made me reconsider my goals. I wanted a career where I could truly make a difference in a person’s life and real estate has proven to be a wonderful choice. I’ve approached real estate with the same devotion I gave to my pre-med studies. I don’t do anything halfheartedly!"

Dave supported himself through college by working in the construction business, so a lifelong interest soon became a career. Dave opened a custom cabinetry business, creating high-end kitchens, entertainment units and cabinets for home offices. Success led to one of his hardwood suppliers hiring Dave as a consultant to sell products to area homebuilders. This, in turn, led to a position with Ohio’s largest home builder marketing homes and training a sales team.

"Each position has built on the previous one," Dave says. "And I have gained a great knowledge of the nuts and bolts of the homebuilding business. I learned from the ground up – the mechanics of building, the materials and craftsmanship needed to create a well-built home, and the qualities consumers want in a home."

While working for one of the country’s largest homebuilders, Dave created an extremely real estate agent-friend atmosphere. He hosted new construction presentations for agents and gained a reputation for being willing to assist agents unfamiliar with the new construction process. He also became involved in land development, helping to create and market several of Dayton’s most prestigious communities.

I enjoy utilizing my experience in new construction, as well as the challenge of successfully marketing and selling existing homes."

From his office in Springboro, Dave serves clients throughout the Miami Valley and Warren County. He enjoys working with all types of buyers and sellers, from first-timers learning the "ins and outs" of the home buying process, to executives who know exactly what they want. Each client is treated with the same level of respect and concern.

"I believe that people can quickly see the caliber of person you are," Dave says. "They can tell if you have their best interests at heart. I try to ask myself, "What would I expect if I were a client?" I would expect an experience that was hassle-free, convenient and enjoyable. That’s the service I try to provide."

Today, Dave works with clients buying and selling existing homes, but he also remains extensively involved with new home sales.

In a short time, Dave has built his business to be almost entirely referral-based. A self-professed "techie," he uses the tools of technology – a laptop, color printer, scanner, cell phone, pager, the Internet and more. "I think that today’s client wants to know they can reach you at just about any time of the day or night."

The first priority for this busy man remains his wife of over 20 years, Mary Kay, and children Daniel, 19, Joel, 18, Juliana, 13, and Rebekah, 10. Dave currently serves as the Chairman on the Board of Directors of The Foundation Of Compassionate American Samaritans (FOCAS). Dave assembles and leads teams of doctors, nurses and related medical professionals to Haiti to help those in greatest need. He has also coached soccer, a sport his children continue to enjoy, along with a full schedule of other activities. If clients phone Dave on his cell phone on a Saturday morning, they have come to expect to hear the cheering of a soccer game or tennis match in the background!

"I am extremely interested in technology and find it very useful in marketing my services and my listings, but I also like to keep in touch in more old-fashioned ways," Dave says. "I write letters and postcards and use the telephone. Perhaps most importantly, many of my clients become personal friends."

Sound like small-town values? Those values have given Dave Thompson a genuine love of people, a caring attitude and a successful career the entire family takes pleasure in. Perhaps your next real estate call should be to Dave Thompson!
